Online Bookmarking Services

Sorry that I haven't posted in a while! I was on vacation, and it was pretty hard to access a computer. Also, I stupidly left all of my bookmarks on my home computer. After doing this, I have done a lot of research into online bookmarking services.

Here is the most sensational of them all:

linkaGoGo is the best online bookmarking service that I have found so far. Its not the biggest (see below), but who cares. You sign up for a free account, which is really easy, then bingo! You can use the great features of this website. Here are some:

  • Import and export bookmarks from any web-browser, including Internet Explorer, Mozillia Firefox, Safari, Netscape, and more.
  • Search your bookmarks.
  • View your Recently Visited, Most Used, and Last Added bookmarks.
  • Automatic reminders of when you need to visit your bookmarks again (for instance, a daily reminder to check you e-mail)

There's lots more too!

Go to linkaGoGo

Honorable Mention:

http://del.icio.us/

This is without a doubt the most popular online bookmarking service. If for whatever reason you don't like linkaGoGo, this is probably the second best.

BumpTop

Today's Sensational Site is one of the coolest I have posted so far! It is a 3D desktop in which files and programs react to real-world physics. They can be tossed around, stacked in piles, and hung on walls. I believe that this system offers superior organizational capabilities. A downloadable version is not yet avaliable, but you can bet that I will post about it when it is!

Click here to watch the video about BumpTop.

Microsoft Office 2007

You can now download a beta of the new Microsoft Office 2007! I did yesterday, and man is it amazing! From what I can see so far, the new interface is awesome. Not too many brand new features, but alot of the old ones were made better. For instance, in Microsoft Word, when you are changing the font of a paragraph, you can automatically preview the font as you mouse over it! It also looks like there will be better integration between these products and the internet, offering easier collaboration between people.

You can see for yourself by downloading the beta at the Microsoft website.

Google Video

As you may or may not have noticed, yesterday I posted the trailer of An Inconvenient Truth as a Google Video. Anyways, Google Video is basically Google's relatively new search engine for videos. My favorite three features for finding cool and funny videos are the Top 100, Today's Movers and Shakers, and the Google Picks. You can purchase things like music videos and sports games on this site. Feel free to check Google Video out, and please send me any cool videos that you find (sensational.sites@gmail.com). Here is one hilarious video that I found:

An Inconvenient Truth

Today's Sensational Site is not actually a website. I know I don't normally post about movies, but I couldn't resist. You have to see An Inconvenient Truth. An Inconvenient Truth is a movie about Al Gore, but mostly about global warming and how you can help to stop it.
Click here for the movie reviews page on Yahoo!

Below is the trailer:

Also, check out climatecrisis.org, the official website of the movie. My favorite part of the site is the "Take Action" pages.

From www.droppingknowledge.org: On September 9th, 112 of the world's most compelling thinkers will gather in Berlin, to engage with 100 questions from the global public. Make your voice heard. Donate your questions, vote on the best questions and check back daily to find out which questions make it to the Table.

This website has an interesting concept. If you have a question that you want "112 of the world's most compelling thinkers" to talk about, ask it on this page.

LIFE - Sudoku

By now you probably know of the fun puzzle/game called Sudoku. If you do not, visit this page for an introduction. Anyways, today's Sensational Site is the best online Sudoku game that I have found. Besides being the most visually appealling, you can also:

  • Print the game
  • Choose from 4 difficulty levels
  • Play games from past days
  • Learn some Sudoku tips and tricks
  • Time your self with the built in timer
Go to LIFE - Sudoku

Also, this page is very interesting. It shows the origins of the names of big brands. Did you know that Apple Computers got its name when the founder Steve Jobs told his colleagues that he would name the company after his favourite fruit if they didn't come up with a better name by 5 o'clock that day? Very interesting!

Elastic Enthusiastic & Google Alive

Today I have decided to post TWO Sensational Sites! Wow!

#1 Elastic Enthusiastic

The first Sensational Site that I am posting today is called the "Elastic Enthusiastic". It is an extremely simple website, but sensational all the same. Throw the lady in the dress around, and she will bounce up and down off of the elastic. Also, you can change the position of the two guys holding the elastic to make it more or less bouncy. Try it, it's fun!

Go to the Elastic Enthusiastic

#2 Google Alive

Today's second Sensational Site is called "Google Alive". On this website, you can create your own personal search engine! Just type in something (I typed in "Quinn Engine"), select a font, then click Create My Search Engine. You now have your own search engine (which uses the search results of Google). You can save it on your favourites, or set it as your homepage!

Da Vinci Code Virtual Tour

On this Sensational Site you go through a virtual tour of many places visited in the Da Vinci Code. All of the places have 360 degree views, which you can also zoom in and out of! The places visited in the "Da Vinci Code Virtual Tour" include:
  1. Louvre Museum and the Pyramid
  2. The Tower of Magdala
  3. Louvre Museum-Mona-Lisa (my favourite)
  4. Champs Élysées
  5. Saint Sulpice
and more!

Monk-E-Mail

Monk-E-Mail is today's Sensational Site. Monk-E-Mail (Monkey Mail, get it?) is a free service where you can send emails to your friends that are much more than just normal text. They are talking monkeys!!! First, you pick one of three chimps to be on your email. Then, you customize things like backgrounds, clothing, and other "stuff". After that, you add your audio. You can do this in four different ways:

  1. Choose a pre-recorded message.
  2. Type in text, and the monkey will speak it.
  3. Record your own voice over the phone (extremely cool)
  4. Record your own voice using a microphone.
Here is an example of something I make using Monk-E-Mail (click here).

3D Logic

Sorry about the two day gap! I was extremely busy! Anyways, today's Sensational Site is a game called 3D Logic, where you need to "link every pair of like coloured markers to complete a cube". The game starts off really easy but then gets pretty hard! This Sensational Site is a great way to exercise you brain!

Also, for all you soccer fans, here is an article which tells you the 10 world cup games in the first phase of competition that are bound to be the most exciting. Which 45 matches in the first 15 days, you probably can't watch all of them. So watch just these 10!

Hobbit Name Generator

Have you ever wondered what your name would be if you were a hobbit? Probably not. Anyhow, on this Sensational Site you put in your name, an the "Hobbit Name Generator" will tell you your hobbit name. My hobbit name is " Robo 'Goldfather' Mugwort of Hardbottle ". This website also tells you what your name would be if you were a elf, dwarf, human (from Lord of the Rings), or a wizard. See what your name is, it's worth a laugh or two!

Go to The Hobbit Name Generator

Also, you can try out the Matrix Name Generator.

Here are some photographs of rooms that are painted to be optical illusions. If you view them at just the right angle, they look amazing!

Speaking of optical illusions, here is a website with lots of them!

Tommorrow, I will show you a really cool "infinately zoomable" picture mosaic. See you back soon!

Pandora

Today's Sensational Site is called Pandora. It is sort of like your own personal internet DJ. What you do is input a song or artist that you like, and it will play you songs with similar music qualities to the artists or songs you inputted. As each song plays, you can either say "I like it" or "I don't like it" to refine you music interests further. Also, you can enter more than one song or artist, and Pandora will create a "Radio Station" for each. I do this so that I have a station for when I want to listen to rock, one for rap, one for heavy metal, and so on.

All in all, Pandora is a great way to discover new songs and bands that you would never have heard about otherwise!

Zeek's Real Magic Trick -- Part Two

How does Zeek's Real Magic Trick work? I will explain in this post (if you haven't yet tried the trick, click here).

The trick is very simple. Hint: the website doesn't use complex mouse tracking algorithms, nor is it really magic. Here is what happens:

1. The website shows you six cards, and tells you to memorize one.

2. You continue to the next step. This page says: "Think of the card that you chose, and with your LEFT hand, touch the corner of your screen and count to three." This steps does nothing, except distract you from how the trick really works.

3. You continue to the last page, and wow! The card that you memorized is missing! This trick is amazing! Not. Compare these pictures of the cards from the first step and third step:

The card that you memorized is not the only card missing, all of them are!!!!!

___________________________________________________________

Since there is no Sensational Site for today, I will leave you with this cool picture.
